It has been a center for innovation in adventure tourism since the development of commercial jet boating in the 1970's. Queenstown's reputation as the adventure capital of the world was consolidated in 1988, when AJ Hackett pionered the world's first commercial bungy operation over the Kawarau River. Today Queenstown offers a diverse range of more than 1000 adventure activities.
The Diploma of Adventure Tourism Management is an 18-month course that includes a six-month paid tourism industry internship. The diploma will focus on the management of adventure of tourism centers with emphasis in entrepreneurship and business development. There will also be emphasis on eco-tourism to give managers of future a thorough knowledge of environmental impact and of their responsibilities. Students will participate in adventure tourism activities as part of their course.
